Dachshund Rescue – Where to go to adopt a rescued dachshund

If you’re looking to own a dachshund, working with a dachshund rescue organisation is a great way to go about it. There are many rescue organisations specifically focused on the breed.
Dachshund rescue organisations exist to help with the re-homing of dachshunds specifically. They are usually not-for-profit organisations, run by an army of volunteers who all have a love for the breed and whose aim is to help re-home dogs who find themselves in difficult situations.
Working with any of these dachshund rescue centres you’ll discover people with extensive knowledge and experience with dachshunds. You’ll also be supporting a worthwhile cause as they all exist to help dachshunds to find new permanent homes when they’re unable to stay with, or are abandoned by, their current owners.
In this article, we’ll aim to highlight just some of those you can turn to for help.
If you are considering owning a rescue dachshund, be sure to research the breed and the likely challenges that come with a rescue dog, before you decide

- Dachshund Rescue UK
Having been in existence for over 40 years, they are probably one of the oldest and most established rescue organisations around. Their stated aim is “to provide loving & permanent homes for those Dachshunds whose owners, for whatever reason, can no longer keep them.”
Covering the whole of the mainland UK, a Board of Trustees oversees the direction and strategy of the organisation, and a network of volunteer Coordinators and their teams help to manage the day-to-day work.
They successfully re-home hundreds of Dachshunds every year and have a rehoming process that matches the needs of the dog with a database of adopters. You can apply to adopt on their website. They also have a Facebook group that’s open to everyone.

2. The Red Foundation
Another well-established, (2017), UK dachshund rescue organisation. Run by volunteers, their name comes from when the Dachshund community came together to raise funds to rescue & spay an 18-month-old female Dachshund named Red. The primary mission at The Red Foundation is “to protect the health and well-being of every dog in our care. We are also advocates of the breed and take our role as social educators very seriously”
