Understanding Stress in Rescue Dachshunds (What’s Normal When They First Come Home)

Bringing a rescue Dachshund home can come with a lot of questions especially when their behaviour doesn’t quite match what you expected.

In this video, I explain how stress shows up in newly rehomed dogs, and why what you’re seeing is often completely normal.

Stress doesn’t always look obvious. It doesn’t always mean panic, barking, or hiding. In many cases, it shows up quietly through changes in sleep, appetite, behaviour, or energy levels.

Understanding this can completely change how you support your dog in those early days and weeks.

Inside this video, you’ll learn:
What stress actually looks like in a rescue Dachshund
Why stress can last for days or even weeks after rehoming
Common signs that are often misunderstood
How stress affects behaviour, appetite, and toileting
What to do to help your dog feel safe and settled
What to avoid during the settling-in period
If your dog seems different, unsettled, overly quiet, or even more reactive after a few weeks, that doesn’t mean things are going wrong.
In many cases, it means your dog is starting to feel safe enough to show more of their true self.

This video is part of a settling-in series designed to help you and your rescue Dachshund build calm, confidence, and trust from the very beginning.

If you’re unsure about anything you’re seeing, reach out to your coordinator early. Support at this stage can make a huge difference
